Melbourne Part II - Day One

Sorry it's taking me forever to continue my Melbourne series but here it is...

DAY ONE!

Upon arriving at the airport, we decided to take the cab to our apartments OAK on Collins. The cab ride costed us about AUD$55. Alternatively you can take their Skybus which takes you into the city and it costs AUD$18 per person.

One thing I realised about Kimi is he likes convenience and he doesn't mind to pay the price. So there were times that we just cabbed it from one place to another which really helps especially when you're travelling with a child.

ACCOMMODATION

OAK on Collins is smack bang in the middle of the city, within walking distance to Southern Cross Station. It is a serviced apartment (queen sized bed) complete with a small kitchenette, fridge and a dishwasher.
The apartment costed us about RM2,600 for 4 nights (mind you it was the F1 weekend so the prices were about twice as much!) but we didn't mind paying the price for the location and all the amenities provided.

FEDERATION SQUARE AND MELBOURNE CITY CENTRE

We left our bags at the concierge as check in is at 2pm. So we decided to head towards Federation Square. The weather was beautiful, not too cold and not too hot either. Perfect for walking around! At Federation Square, there is free wi-fi available and this is where you can find their Information Centre. We took some pamphlets and walked around a bit more while waiting for Kimi's sister to come and meet us!

We managed to find a kebab store nearby so we grabbed some lunch and brought it back to the apartment. We checked in at around 1pm and settled in. Had our lunch and everyone had a nap as we haven't rested since we got off the plane.

MELBOURNE AQUARIUM

At around 3pm, we got up as I pre-purchased the tickets online for the Melbourne Aquarium and they were for that date only. Buying tickets online saves you about 10% so it's a nice save.

Ticket Prices
Adult AUD $38.00 AUD $30.40
Child (4-15yrs) AUD $22.00 AUD $17.60

So we headed out to the Aquarium which was a mere 5 minute walk from the hotel.

The aquarium was quite big with a huge collection of fishes. Nazrin really enjoyed his time here. They had a HUGE crocodile and not to mention penguins! We decided not to go to Phillip Island to watch the penguin as we didn't want to travel so far to see penguins in the dark, so this was our consolation.

The aquarium was worth the trip and definitely should not be missed!

YARRA RIVER AND SOUTHBANK

After the aquarium, we crossed the bridge and we stopped by Crown Casino to check it out. There is a small mall and a food court, so we stopped to have some fish and chips and ice cream. Then we continued walking by Yarra River.

We walked past the Eureka Tower and basically just enjoyed the scenery and the evening stroll.

As most shops close early (BOO!) we went to an Indonesian Restaurant to buy some takeaway dinners and then headed back to the hotel to rest for the night!
