Review - Lunch at Nobu KL

“Nobu is the world’s hippest restaurant chain.”
Vogue

Touted as the hippest restaurant, usually frequented by celebrities I finally had the chance to experience Nobu. I went there with my friend Diana and my sister for lunch.

As we have never been to Nobu before, we left Diana to do the ordering. I must say her choices were pretty spot on as I loved all of the dishes she picked. Check out what we had! (Disclaimer: I am no foodie so my description may not be spot on, so apologies!)

1. Nobu scallop tacos RM18
This was so pricey! I thought it was RM18 for the whole plate but it turned out to be RM18 each! I could have definately given this a miss.

2. Salmon New Style Sashimi RM65
Broiled salmon with soy sauce

2. Baby tiger shrimp tempura in creamy spicy sauce RM60
This was soo delish!! Loved this!!
Juicy succulent shrimp but crispy on the outside with spicy sauce.

3. Chilean Sea Bass RM140
The sauce on the was to die for. It was sweet and spicy.

4. Sushi
Salmon and eel sushi (no pic sorry!)

5.Dry Aged Prime Ribeye Anticucho RM155
Juicy and tender beef with 3 different sauces. I had this with rice as I was still hungry then :p

6. Bento Box RM35
Molten lava cake with Macha ice cream.

Overall, the food was undoubtedly delicious but it comes with a hefty price tag. You also need to know what you are ordering so that you don't waste your money ordering something you don't like. Personally, I think once is enough as I can't afford to dine here often. Our bill came to RM800++ eekk! But everyone should go there at least once!! The dinner menu is much more extensive so you may prefer going for dinner as well.

Thanks for the company and lovely lunch girls!

Review - Paddington House of Pancakes Ampang Point

Last week, we stopped by Ampang Point as Natte needed to get something from Spotlight.
After we completed our errands, we decided to try Paddington House of Pancakes for lunch.

Loved the ambiance of the place. Situated at the entrance of Spotlight, it was cosy and surprisingly calm and comfortable albeit that its in the middle of the shopping centre.
The Ambiance
My drink - a strawberry, peach, blueberry mocktail

We both ordered 1 mains each.
I went to the stack of blueberry pancakes with scrambled eggs.

While Natte had a burger. They served the burger patty in between 2 pancakes instead.

Natte's Burger

The servings were HUGE! We ordered a tall stack of pancakes for desserts. But we were SO full already! Luckily we could change our orders to a short stack instead.

Choc, Marshmallow and Brownie Pancakes

VERDICT

  • yummy pancakes!
  • good portions, we were stuffed after our mains
  • made to order - they even checked if we were ready for the dessert and only then they "fire" up the pancakes
  • great service - very accommodating as they allowed us to change our orders from a tall stack to a short one
  • reasonably priced, total bill was around RM65 for the both of us including drinks and desserts

Do try Paddington House of Pancakes next time you're in Ampang Point!

Review - Red lobster

I had the opportunity to eat at Red Lobster a few weeks back.

Located at the Intermark, it was a cosy Lobster shack from the US.

Check out below a few pages of their menu that I manAged to snap so you can have a fair idea of their price range.

I decided to have the following;

Lobster bisque
This was sooo delicous!! Loved it!!

My mocktail - it was a Mango Daiquiri

My mains - Steak and Lobster
The lobster was so sweet and juicy but they went overboard with the salt which was a shame.

I'm not a huge meaty steak fan. I need my sauce with my steak which in this case they were none. I had it medium-well and it was cooked accordingly and was lightly seasoned.

VERDICT

  • Great ambiance
  • Sweet succulent lobsters
  • However too much salt in their seasoning
  • Quite a slow service (we went at lunchtime)
  • Pricey!

The Fancy Breakfast Club

For Jid and Ad's birthday, we went to The Fancy Breakfast Club ("FBC").
Situated at No 76, Jalan Limau Purut in a terrace house - FBC caters for brunch on weekends and breakfast on weekdays.
The brunch starts at 11am - 2pm and costs RM75 per head.
Do book early (Thursday is the cut off for bookings) for the weekend brunch and they only have capacity for 20 people.

The chef, Basira was so kind and accommodating. They were serving to the theme of Subtle Sixties and all table cloths are tie dyed. I emailed her to change so that our table cloth is white to go along our theme and she happily obliged.

Our table setting

Now on to the buffet ;

This is the buffet breakfast spread. I was expecting more but I guess FBC concentrates more on quality than quantity.

Cheese spread
Yoghurt and fruits
Cereals with dried fruits
Salad
Upside down Pineapple cake
2 types of freshly baked bread
2 types of pastries
Iced Tea in jars
Pineapple Soda

On top of that you get to choose one main and one dessert.
The choices are per the menu below:

I chose the Beef Bourguignon for my mains

They were so delicious!! Tender braised meat wrapped in herb crepe.
My son absolutely loved it!! He kept saying "Nak beef mummy!"
(I am salivating as I type this and it doesn't help that I'm fasting too!)
Unfortunately I think the portion was too small!! I didn't have enough *boo*

Then onto desserts, French Toast!
Beautifully plated french toast.

French Toast with Summer Berry Coule and cream
Again, it was so good that I nearly cried when it finished!

We bought a cake for the birthday girls too and they beautifully decorated our simple red velvet with flowers and presented it on a wooden board. They made the cake look so beautiful and perfect with our rustic theme!!

bagbeautybaby VERDICT

  • The breakfast served on that day was SUPERB!
  • Everything was so delicious that I couldn't get enough. So the downside of this place is that the portion was too small for my liking (read:pelahap hehe).
  • I loved the warm bread that they served and their drinks are delicious too.
  • Unfortunately I was hoping for a bigger spread as the price I paid (RM75) could get me a huge breakfast spread at a hotel.
  • But like I said, this place probably goes for quality (in terms of the ingredients used) rather than quantity.
  • As the brunch was held inside a house, it can be slightly cramped and HOT. Our section was particularly hot with no direct air conditioner blasting.
  • Do note also that this place has no high chairs, so take that into account when bringing kids. Nazrin was big enough to sit on the chair and he loved roaming around and making friends with the people at FBC.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for the experience. Super sedap (delicous) food and great service from everyone at FBC! And they change the menu every 2 weeks, so I would definitely be coming back for more!
