Phantom of the Opera in KL

I finally got to see Phantom of the Opera and can cross this off my bucket list!!
I have always LOVED musicals and theaters and had Phantom along with Les Mis on my list to watch. When I heard that they will be performing in KL I convinced Natte (who else?! hehe) to have a date with me and she agreed! We bought the tickets way in advanced as the show is in July while we bought them in December.

When the day of the show finally came, we both got glammed up at the office and headed out for our date!

Thanks Natte for accompanying me!!

We had pretty good seats! So glad we splurged and bought these tickets.

I went in only knowing the gist of the story line. I should have bought the program book but didn't. Overall it wasn't my favourite one, but it ceases to amaze me how a theater production comes together and come to live. The live music from x many piece orchestra together with the multiple octaves of notes sang by the actors and actresses. The Phantom though, he was definitely something, his deep voice is hauntingly good! So I truly enjoyed it !! Hope to see another show soon and hopefully the tickets aren't too expensive. Being more "cultured" is burning a hole in my pocket!

P Ramlee the musical - quick review

I finally managed to coax the hubs to go out for a date with me!
I think it's been 2 years since we last went out just the TWO of us (we went to watch MIB3).

This time around, we went to see P. Ramlee the musical. Thought that he might enjoy it since he's a fan of P. Ramlee. We even went to his museum (his old house converted into a museum) earlier this year.

Review of the Musical

I was expecting more of his original songs to be sang but that was not the case. Mainly the songs were the theatrical bits (ie singing to tell the story).

As for the cast, Tony was good but that was expected.
Lisa as JunaiDah - at first I was pleasantly surprised that she could sing. But unfortunately for the last song (before she parted ways with Ramli) that was a bit of a fail. She didn't quite hit the notes.
Tiara as Norizan  - she was so-so only
Nadia Aqilah as Saloma - this girl BLEW ME AWAY! she impressed me the most that night! Loved all the scenes with her in it. When she sang, the hairs on my arms were upright!! She was brilliant and i think she STOLE the show.
Eidil as Sukardi - another small timer (maybe he's pretty famous now). He was funny and could carry a tune!

The props were pretty amazing too. Love the scene with the trains going to Singapore!

Overall I thought it was entertaining but not the best. Me and Liza kept commenting throughout the show :p

Can't wait for our next theater session with the hubs which is a surprise from me to him!

Makeup look for the date

Initially I wanted to do bold red lippy but I actually forgot and went and did my eyes!!
This look was veto-ed by Adzy! Cos you can't go strong on eyes AND lips!

Smokey eyes and red lippy

So I changed my lipstick to something softer. VOILA!

Review - Bahayanya Wanita

After the drama regarding the ticket, we managed to watch the theater on the night that we wanted.
PHEW!!

So after a quick dinner at KLCC with Ann we headed off straight to Istana Budaya.

My bimbotches (sans Nadia)

Us again at intermission
The theatre was light and funny. Which was exactly what we wanted.
Zizan was hilarious!! He was improvising with little jokes here and there making all the other actresses laugh that they had to turn around!

Some examples;

A quick jab at Erra "Patutla Awie sayang!" (is there a lil gossip here??!)
The many jokes about Umie Aida's turban calling them cabbage, Darth Vader and a lamp shade

I was surprised how good Nora was. Her acting was great and she even sang! Well surprised!

Erra and Umie Aida were equally as good. Loved Erra's singing voice!

The whole show was very laid back.
Any mistakes, they kinda laughed it off and continued.

I really wanted to see Neelofa too and she come out for 3 seconds in the very last scene! heheh (baik tak payah :p)

But overall it was an enjoyable show. Zizan was super funny tho! He really made the show.
It was a tad too long tho. A total of 2 hours, it finished at 12am! Yikes!! When mummy came back you were fast asleep with your Nani and Baba. Sorry son!

Well done to the whole production team! Loved it!

Good show!
